ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

If we have enough... let us be content' 1 Timothy 6:8 NLT

If only I...' This simple phrase, repeated regularly, holds the key to real, lasting discontentment. No matter how good your life is now, no matter how God has blessed you in the past, 'If only I...' brings it all crashing down, making you feel like you've got nothing worth having.

Paul had sorted this out in his head. He said, 'I have learned how to be content with whatever I have' (Philippians 4:11 NLT). And Ben Franklin agreed, writing: 'Contentment makes poor men rich, and discontent makes rich men poor.'

Contentment is found by leaning on your Creator. Your Father knows what you need, and He will provide for you if you lean on Him. So how does contentment come about? First, seek Him. Make it a daily choice. We really need to come to the place where we believe that having more stuff/fun/friends/_______ (add in your own words) won't make us happier. The only permanent fix for this is to replace our own desire for these things with a desire for more of God. Often this means simplifying your life, stripping away unnecessary things. Then, say it. Say, 'I have enough' every time that you're faced with the temptation to say 'If only I...'

So what now? Own up: you have a list (even if it's a short one) of things you think you need before you can be truly happy. Be honest about those things before God, one by one.
