Accuser vs advocate 1

'The accuser...has been thrown down.' Revelation 12:10 NLT

When John wrote that 'the accuser of our brothers and sisters who accused them day and night before our God, has been thrown down' (Revelation 12:10 NLT), he was talking about Satan. And Satan has only one aim: 'To steal and kill and destroy' (John 10:10 NIV). He tries to steal our peace, kill our dreams and destroy our future. And one way he does that is to plant thoughts in our minds. Thoughts like, 'I'm a failure', 'I'm a bad person' or 'I'm unlovable'. He accuses us. He wants us to feel guilt and shame, which makes us believe we're not qualified to be effective for God. And when this happens, the devil's accusations are winning.

But... the Bible says that Jesus is 'at the right hand of God... interceding for us' (Romans 8:34 ESV). While the devil is our accuser, Jesus is our advocate. He is talking to God on our behalf. He defends us. He takes on the role of a priest. 'And since we have a great priest over God's house, let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, because we have been made free from a guilty conscience' (Hebrews 10:21-22 NCV). A clean heart. A clean conscience. Free from accusation and condemnation from our past mistakes, and our future ones.

So, let's listen to Jesus' voice above the accusing voice of the devil.

So what now? Write down any negative thoughts you have about yourself. Next to them write the truth of what Jesus thinks and says about you.
