'How much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!' Matthew 7:11 NIV
God is the ultimate gift giver. He delights in giving us gifts! He always knows what we need and what the desires of our heart are. And, his gifts always seem to be perfectly timed. The Bible tells us that 'every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows' (James 1:17 NIV). God's love for us is unchanging and he wants to give us 'good and perfect' gifts. We have permission to enter into God's presence and ask him for what we want. Jesus said, 'How much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask him' (Matthew 7:11 NIV)!
If we're requesting things with selfish motives or we have sin we haven't confessed, we'll probably feel uncomfortable in God's presence and struggle to confidently believe that God will provide for us. So let's make sure we're dealing with our sin and seeking his will. We're told that 'he does not hold back anything good from those whose lives are innocent' (Psalm 84:11 NCV).
And remember, if God says no to our requests, it's probably because it wouldn't be good for us, either at that time or ever! We just need to trust that he has something better in mind for us.
So what now? Make a list of the blessings God has given you. Take time to thank him for each one and that he is a Dad who loves to give you 'good gifts'.
