The power of the blood 2
'...You are members of God's family.' Ephesians 2:19 NLT
Ever noticed that when somebody battles in an area we struggle with, we're quick to give thanks that Jesus' blood covers all our sins? And, if that person happens to fail in an area where we're strong, we can take a bit longer to give them a break and forgive them?
Sin affects each of us differently according to our background and personality. But regardless of the symptoms it's the same disease, and there's only one remedy - the blood of Jesus. Without that we're all in trouble. Jesus' blood is the only thing that makes forgiveness and a clean slate possible, regardless of what we've done. The Bible says that Jesus 'Christ reconciled... [us] to God by means of his death on the cross...He brought this Good News of peace to you... who were far away from him, and...who were near. Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit ...You are members of God's family. Together, we are his house...' (Ephesians 2:15-20 NLT).
We cannot think that we have unlimited access to God's mercy and forgiveness, then deny that same access to others! The Bible says, 'If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself.' Why? Because, '...so that you also are not tempted' (Galations 6:1 GWT). Let's not burn bridges we ourselves might need to cross one day.
So what now? If you're deep down holding someone else's failures against them, forgive them and set them and yourself free through the blood of Jesus.
