'...the revelation awaits an appointed time... wait for it; it will certainly come...' Habakkuk 2:3 NIV
Everything God does is deliberate. One way of understanding this aspect of God is to think of a diary full of appointments. A diary's role is to make sure that, ideally, everything gets done on time and in the right order. God has ideal timings for things to happen in your life, but you have the power to rush or delay those timings.
When God gives you a promise it's like a seed; it needs time to take root and bear fruit. Human life follows a similar cycle. Everyone knows the order; mum and dad (yes, even yours!) have sex, then comes the pregnancy, then the development in the womb, and finally the birth. What does mum-to-be do during this time? She can't rush or delay the timing but she can prepare for and enjoy the journey to parenthood. The Psalmist writes: 'Don't be impatient for the Lord to act! Keep travelling steadily along his pathway and in due season he will honour you with every blessing' (Psalm 37:34 TLB).
Maturity is about learning the difference between human timing and God's timing. If you don't want to risk missing God's good plan for your life, learn to listen for his direction. The prophet said, '...the revelation awaits an appointed time... wait for it; it will certainly come...' (Habakkuk 2:3 NIV).
So what now? Whether you're getting impatient about God's timing or trying hard to delay it, learn to thrive on it. If you learn this now, it will set you up for life.
