Those who matter
'I thank my God every time I remember you.' Philippians 1:3 NIV
There's a true story of a little boy, Johnny, whose sister needed a blood transfusion. The doctor explained to him that she had the same disease he had recovered from two years earlier. Her only chance of recovery was a transfusion from someone who'd beaten it, so he was the perfect donor. 'Would you give your blood to Mary?' the doctor asked. Johnny paused, his lower lip trembled, and then he smiled and said, 'For my sister, yes I will.' The two children were wheeled into the hospital room. Neither spoke, but when their eyes met Johnny grinned. But as the nurse inserted the needle into his arm Johnny's smile faded. He watched the blood flow through the tube. After a little while Johnny's voice, slightly shaky, broke the silence. 'Doctor, when do I die?' Only then did the doctor realise why Johnny had been hesitant when he agreed to donate his blood. He thought that giving his blood to his sister meant giving up his own life. In that brief moment he'd made an incredible decision.
Who in your life would give their life for you? Whoever they are, make time for them and show your appreciation for them right now. Some of the things you're striving for now will seem empty and the things you're upset over now will seem pointless if they are not there.
So what now? Squeeze the most out of every moment you get with those closest to you. Create memories you'll treasure with those who matter!
