Respect is due
'Jesus stood up and commanded the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!"' Mark 4:39 NCV
In Mark chapter 4 you'll find a story about how even the wind and waves listened to Jesus. In the middle of a raging storm Jesus stands up in the boat, tells the wind and the waves to chill out and... tada!... the sea is calm. Jesus' friends are rocked by this: 'Who is this? Even the wind and waves respect this guy'. (Just something to think about: do you know that Jesus said this: 'Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father' (John 14:12 NIV).) Woah, that's big!
Since the beginning of time, humans have longed be respected, through fame or money or popularity. But, the only respect worth having is as a follower of Jesus. And the one most worthy of respect is Jesus.
Even Jesus' Father reminds us of this: 'So God raised him to the highest place. God made his name greater than every other name so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus - everyone in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth. And everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and bring glory to God the Father' (Philippians 2:9-11 NCV). Jesus is it!
So what now? Being a follower of Christ is the best decision you'll ever make! He is the one who will set you free, change your life and give you power to do the works he did. But remember to always give him the true respect he is due.
