You and the church
'Through him you, also, are being built in the Spirit together with others into a place where God lives.' Ephesians 2:22 GWT
Yesterday we saw that there are times when we need to be alone with God, to gain guidance and perspective from him. Alone time with God is the best starting point for everything else we do in life.
But, like many truths of the Bible, this is a coin with two sides. There are other times when we best experience the fullness of God's presence as we get together with God's people. The place where this happens is in 'the Church', which refers to the people in the body of Christ, not the building. When people who love Jesus gather to worship, praise and share words of encouragement, God's Spirit shows up in a powerful way. We grow together and move forward as we stir each other up with his Word.
The world around us can be messy and confusing; stuff happens that leaves us feeling ragged and raw. We struggle and stumble and sometimes feel like losers, but when we gather with the big family called 'the Church' we're reminded that we're on the winning side.
Jesus loved to be alone with his Father to gain his direction and strength, but he loved being with people too - his family, his friends, his disciples, the people of his community. Jesus got the balance right.
So what now? It's hard to do life on your own. Whether you're celebrating, mourning, feeling confused, hurt or inspired, your life is better shared. Like Jesus, be deliberate about getting the balance right, and live a good life.
