Take action 3
'Train yourself to live a godly life.' 1 Timothy 4:7 GWT
When writing to the church in Laodicea, John was instructed by Jesus to say: 'You are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot' (Revelation 3:15 GWT). These words can apply to us too. We can become lukewarm in our faith and passion for God and our spiritual life can become mundane and stationary. That's not how God wants us to be; he wants us to be growing in faith and moving forwards. The Bible says: 'Train yourself to live a godly life. Training the body helps a little, but godly living... has the promise of life now and in the world to come' (1 Timothy 4:7-8 GWT).
Just as athletes need to keep training to stay physically fit and healthy, we need to train regularly to be spiritually fit and healthy. If we see that our faith has become lukewarm, we need to take action. God doesn't expect us to have strong and passionate faith immediately; spiritual growth is about progress, not perfection. He's willing to work with us as we exercise our faith.
How can we exercise spiritually? By devoting time to building our relationship with our Father through prayer, reading the Bible, worshipping and spending time with other Christians. The Bible says: 'Come near to God and he will come near to you' (James 4:8 NIV). He can take our cold hearts and set them on fire for him again.
So what now? Take action! Create an 'exercise in God' plan. Each day include times and activities to build your faith and relationship with him.
