All glory to God 3

'Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.' 1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV

How do we live for God's glory? The answer: in 'whatever'.

'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men' (Colossians 3:23 NIV). It's a great goal to love what we work at, and work at what we love. But that isn't reality at every stage of life. Sometimes we're called to do a good job for a not-so-good company, boss or salary. The way to 'work with all your heart' in these times is by thanking God that we have a job to supply our needs, and that we can work at it as if for him. And: 'Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God' (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV). Even the most mundane of activities is absolutely miraculous. We take approximately twenty-three thousand breaths every day. With each breath, five-hundred million air sacs in our lungs fill up. But when was the last time we thanked God for one of them? We tend to thank God for things that take our breath away. And that's fine. But maybe we should thank him for every other breath too.

The Westminster Catechism, written jointly by theologians and laymen in 1646, says: 'Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.' It can't be said any simpler, or any better. This is why we exist.

So what now? Whatever is going on in your life right now, find ways to get creative in enjoying God and glorifying him, in 'whatever'?
