There Is A Fairer Way! Featured

Since we're smack in the middle of Fair Trade Fortnight, I thought this is the perfect oppertunity to talk about something I'm very passionate about - Fair Trade!

When I'm talking about Fair Trade, the immortal words of Jaden Smith often pop into my head:

I kind of use it as a life philosophy. Should someone be paid a couple of cents an hour to do a job that, if they'd been born on a different part of the planet, they'd be paid a decent living wage for? No way! So when I buy stuff, from clothes to bananas, I try and make sure it's come from somewhere where the people making or growing the product are paid a fair price.

Living in one of the richest countries in the world gives me a certain sense of responsibility, and I happen to think this is a very biblical way to live, too! There are a lot of verses that talk about this, but here's a couple:

1 Timothy 5:18 ESV: "For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages.""

Proverbs 3:27-28 ESV: "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it."

I don't want to guilt trip anyone, but I personally find it really helpful to sometimes be reminded of the power my purchases have.

The reason I think the 'Fair Trade' brand is great, is because an easy way to tell if something has been made in fair conditions, rather than slave like ones.
