Laurs is a 22-year-old New Zealand singer-songwriter and former youth worker who, after a season of significant personal loss, made the decision to leave her job and move alone to a small mountain village in Northern Italy.
Her debut EP, A Great Big Deal, was written and recorded live with a full band during her time overseas.
In this conversation with Bjorn and Sela on The Morning Wake Up, Laurs talks about the six-month period of loss that led her to leave her job, what it's actually meant to live somewhere she doesn't speak the language, and how her faith has shown up in the quiet of a village where she knows almost no one. She also unpacks the meaning behind her EP title and why she thinks New Zealanders are too quick to minimise the things that matter.
