An unselfish life (4)
Let's think about someone who loves us. It feels great to know that they really care about us, and that we're on their minds regularly. (But...if we can't think of anyone who we believe really loves us, let's give people and ourselves some credit; we are more loveable than we think).
In the Bible, we're told that God's love is steadfast, immoveable, unchangeable, faithful. In Lamentations 3:22 (NLT) it says, 'The faithful love of the Lord never ends.' In Psalm 118:29, the psalmist thanks God for loving him so intensely. God's love is enough; he will always love us beyond any human love we can imagine. Maybe we have some grasp of his love, or maybe we're still trying to accept it, but either way we'll never fully comprehend how much he cares. God's love may be hard for us to accept at times, but it's for our own good that we believe his promise that we are loved unconditionally.
Now for human love... We can never love anyone as much as God does, but he still calls us to love them. Not everyone in our lives has an experience of God's love for them, so we, his children, are called to show them: through words of life and encouragement, or kind acts.
So what now? Send a 'How are you doing?' message to someone who's going through a tough time. Let them know you value them and care. (And if you find it hard to see God's love for you, pray he'll reveal it to you.)
