Be set free! (1)

Monday, 26 October 2026

The feeling of being physically trapped must be awful - in a tight space, in a lift. It may be something we don't even like to think about. But we all can feel trapped at times: paralysed by things in our lives. These can be things we bring upon ourselves - like addictions that get out of hand. Or situations that we're not sure how to escape. Or painful memories. It could be the need for approval, or the belief that we'll never quite be good enough. Life gets tough. Those things can feel like they're crushing us, to the point where we may just break.

In Mark 2:1-12, Jesus didn't leave a paralysed man stuck in his situation. In fact, wherever Jesus went, he brought freedom. He told people that their situations were fixed, that they could get up from the spot they were trapped in. He was right, because he has the power to make it so. In Luke 4:18 NLT, he announces: 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free'.

Jesus has come to bring freedom to everyone. And guess what... that includes us.

So what now? What things are keeping you trapped? Give thanks for the hope of being free that Jesus gives, and believe that freedom is coming for your situation.
