Don't fear failing (2)
Let's look more at how to conquer the fear of failure. (1) Let's pursue our God-given purpose in life. We're more likely to succeed at the things we're passionate about. And God will not only reveal his purpose to us, but will give us passion to pursue it. Paul had the gift, education and connections to pursue a number of different careers. But he wrote, 'I couldn't keep from preaching it if I wanted to. I would be utterly miserable' (1 Corinthians 9:16 TLB). What we feel passionate about is a clue to our destiny.
(2) Let's ask ourselves these questions: (a) 'What's the worst that can happen if I don't succeed?' We'll still have God, our talents, our family and other opportunities. (b) 'Has this ever been done before?' Even if not, so what? (c) 'Is this fear a signal that I don't have the proper people, processes or plans in place to succeed?' Then let's ask the really big question: 'What are the benefits I will enjoy if I succeed?' Let's have a can-do attitude, and look our fear in the face and boldly declare: 'Christ gives me the strength to face anything' (Philippians 4:13 CEV). Let's speak it out, absorbing the words and getting them into our spirit.
So what now? Know that Jesus strengthens you to succeed for his glory. Know that when he guides you, he provides you with all that you need to succeed in whatever he's called you to do. Do not fear!
