Drop the branding, just live

Ever seen those 'designer' water bottles that sell for $50+? The ones with expensive advertising campaigns and flashy add-on accessories? Strange, really, that the deliverer of the water is more revered than the life-giving water in it!

Many criticise the Church for taking the life-giving teachings of Jesus and focusing more on the delivery method. They see Christians more passionate to label everyone else as wrong than they are passionate for why their Jesus is right. They see the defensive ways Christians protect their faith from culture. They see them preaching a message but not living it. In short, they see a lot of the Christian brand, but little of the Jesus it's supposed to contain.

What if Jesus meant us to spend less time dressing up and defending the Christian faith, and more time vulnerably and gently living out his Gospel? Do we spend more time talking about our faith (through posts or blogs or tweets) than we do trying to live like Jesus? We can do the first by our own strength, but the second means falling back on Jesus as the strong source, a fountain of life that sustains us: the living water.



So what now? This week, don't defend 'what Christians believe'. Instead, live out your faith entirely through how you act. Ask Jesus to provide you with an opportunity to authentically share why you love Jesus.
