Keep reaching out

Friday, 19 September 2025

People came to Jesus in droves. In the crowd was a paralysed man, carried by four friends. When the crowd got too much, the four determined men got crafty, made a hole in the roof of the building Jesus was in, and lowered their friend's bed down to Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, 'I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home' (Mark 2:11 NIV). We learn from this man's story that sometimes people can't get to Jesus on their own. God often uses us to reach those who don't know him.

It took four people with faith to bring this man to Jesus. We don't have to do all the bringing by ourselves. Jesus said, 'If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in Heaven will do it for you' (Matthew 18:19 NLT). Praying together is so powerful.

They were so determined to reach Jesus that they didn't allow a crowd and a roof to stop them. They didn't give up. What an encouragement for us, for the people we love, and for those we want to bring to God.

So what now? The man on the mat had a dramatic testimony. You may not, but you may have at least one story of someone being faithful and generous to you in your Christian walk. Get in touch with them and thank them. Or ask someone who does have an amazing 'through the roof' experience to inspire you with their story.
