Living on a prayer (2)

Monday, 4 May 2026

In Revelation 4:11 (NIV), we read these words, said to God in worship: 'You created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.' These words put God in his proper place in our lives and may well transform the way we approach our prayer time...

Revelation tells us that God created everything, including us. That he planned us. That it's always been his will that we exist. Our lives don't always go according to God's best plan for us. But, despite that, God still chooses us, so much so that he became human, died and broke down the barriers between us and him. When Jesus died, 'The veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom' (Mark 15:38 NKJV), opening up the place where God's presence was, where only the High Priest had been allowed. Now we can approach him as 'a Kingdom of priests' (Revelation 1:6 NLT), at any time. It took the death of a King to make it possible to chat to our Father, anywhere, anytime, in any state.

We did not come into being through clinical scientific evolution; nor do we have a distant, uninvolved creator. This is a God who 'chose us... before the creation of the world' (Ephesians 1:4 NIV). Let's allow that to sink in.

So what now? You are God's intention. No matter how you feel, and no matter what anyone else thinks of you, he made you and delights in you. Thank him for that as you pray today.
