Sharing is caring

'Sharing is caring.' Ahh... the sound of our childhood. The three sing-song words said to us after we refused to let the grubby kids in playgroup take our playdough. As irritating as it might be to hear those words chime in our mind, it's a lesson we should have learned by now. For most of us, sharing is something we'll be trying to perfect for the rest of our lives.

But that's okay: the Bible offers help for sharing. The book of Acts follows the disciples after Jesus returned to Heaven. It shows how they lived (and shared) among each other, and it's a mirror image of the same message we heard when we were toddlers, with nothing to fear but the prospect of someone asking why there's so little red playdough left (and whether it has anything to do with the red bits between our teeth...). Luke wrote: 'All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had' (Acts 4:32 NIV). They considered nothing they owned as 'their own', singular, but as 'their', plural, as a group, so there was no-one without support.

Imagine... if we could start thinking just a teensy bit like the early Christians, what difference could we make in other people's lives?

So what now? A challenge: give away something of meaning to you, to someone who you know will genuinely benefit from it.
