The newness of God

Wednesday, 25 March 2026

Why as humans are we drawn to make new stuff or try new things? Or to go to new places? Maybe... because we're made to be like our Creator. In Revelation 21:5 NKJV, Jesus says, 'See, I am making all things new!'

God's great new creation is us. And he's never finished making us new. Today's verse talks about how Abraham trusted God to make him the father of many nations, even though he was well past it, child-making-wise. And the whole of Romans chapter 5 talks about how in Jesus we're newer, better humans than we even could have been in Eden.

Our verse today says, 'God...calls into existence things that don't even exist' (Romans 4:17 GWT). How incredible is God... he makes things that don't exist! This verse tells us what God is like: utterly creative, of things, situations and people - things that weren't there before. God loves us, he loves to create and give to us. He loves to see us respond in the moments when a situation changes, when something is made new or when we experience the freedom this newness brings. In fact, one of the things that makes God so wonderful is that he brings newness and restoration when we may see no hope or future.

So what now? Whatever it is in your life (a relationship, attitude or lifestyle habit) that needs some fresh new life in it, ask God for his help. He's in the business of calling things that are not as though they were.
