The Scriptures 'also say'

Satan loves using half-truths to deceive us. He took Jesus to 'the holy city to the highest part of the temple. The devil said, "If you are God's Son, jump off. The Scriptures say: 'God will give his angels orders about you. They will catch you...' Jesus answered, "The Scriptures also say, 'Don't try to test the Lord your God'"' (Matthew 4:5-7 CEV)! Satan will tell us things like, 'It doesn't matter if you cheat on that test or lie a little on your job application. It's okay - God will understand and forgive you.'

God may forgive us, but the Bible also says, 'A man reaps what he sows' (Galatians 6:7 NIV). When Satan comes calling, we need to know what the word of God actually says - not just selected snippets. Paul wrote, 'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching...in righteousness' (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV). But when the enemy manipulates God's word and uses it against us, we need to be able to say, 'The Scriptures also say.' In other words, we need to know what else God has to say.

The Bible says Satan 'will speak against the Most High...oppress his holy people and try to change...times and...laws' (Daniel 7:25 NIV). He knows God's word is a powerful 'double-edged sword' (Hebrews 4:12 NCV), but he will still try to engage in a sword fight!



So what now? Don't allow the enemy to trick you with distortions and half-truths! Get into God's word, get God's word into you, and tell Satan, 'Get behind me' (Matthew 16:23 NIV).
