Courage to move
Caleb was part of a team on a mission to check out the Promised Land. Most of the spy team was terrified and returned with stories of a land 'that devours its inhabitants' (Numbers 13:32 NKJV), with people who made them look 'like grasshoppers' (Numbers 13:33 NKJV). Not a great starting point for Israel, who'd been waiting for forty years to inhabit the land God had promised to them.
But, despite the perceived threats, Caleb had a different approach. He trusted God and remembered his faithfulness, and said 'We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it' (Numbers 13:30 NIV). It takes courage to look beyond a supposed dead end. Perhaps we're wanting to break a habit or trying out a gift we think God's given us. We're on new ground, and when we feel under threat from others (or ourselves), it can make us want to stop trying.
But if we adopt Caleb's strategy, we're on to a winner: 'Don't rebel against the Lord, and don't be afraid of the people of the land. We will devour them like bread' (Numbers 14:9 GWT). The things that hold us back can be used as 'bread' to feed us and keep us going to where God's leading us. If we've started a good thing with God, let's not give up now.
So what now? Is there something that's seemingly a 'dead end' in you living fully for God? Pray for the courage to take the next step. You know God is always with you.
