God revealed (5)

So, Jesus heals a blind man. But the Pharisees still aren't happy. They say, 'We don't even know where he comes from' (John 9:29 NIV). This, however, doesn't faze the blind man. His reply is: 'Now that is remarkable! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes' (John 9:30 NIV). He's astounded that Jesus did something so unusual for him, saying: 'Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing' (John 9:32-33 NIV).

There's a reminder for us here: without God we can do nothing. Ok, we may make a decent cup of coffee, but who made the hands that switched the kettle on, and who created the coffee beans? (Side note: we really want a coffee now. And a Tim Tam!). Sometimes we take credit for the things God does, without realising it. But he is our source of everything.

Jesus said, 'I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing' (John 15:5 NIV). God is reminding us that the only reason we can do anything is because of him. Let's hold onto this, especially when people, including ourselves, try to convince us otherwise.

So what now? Make a hot drink (don't forget the Tim Tam! ). While you do, consider where each thing you need to make that cuppa comes from. Bet you eventually end up at God.
