Light in our eyes

For most of us, the internet is an integral part of our lives. We talk to faraway friends, play our daily quiz or check the weather, and have access to masses of information about just about anything in seconds. It's opened our world to great stuff, but also to some not-so-great stuff.

How not-so-great is not-so-great? Is watching a movie with heaps of swearing as bad as some of the other stuff we could be looking at? Well, look at what Paul wrote: 'Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things' (Philippians 4:8 NIV). Is what we're listening to, reading or watching beneficial or corrupting? Even if we fast forward an 'intimate scene', we still have to be careful about where our web browsing takes us, mentally and spiritually. The things we 'fast forward' can still impact us.

Is it time for an audit of our internet content? We reckon regular checks are helpful. It may mean being ruthless about what we turn away from, saying with the Psalmist: 'I will not look at anything wicked' (Psalm 101:3 NCV). Jesus said, 'The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light' (Matthew 6:22 NIV). Let's make sure we're filling our eyes with light.
