Keep your hands open (1)

Potential bubble-burst coming up: following God isn't always easy. And being a Christian isn't signing up for a life of leisure. We can probably all identify with 'not easy'. When we decide to live for Jesus, we're choosing to live for someone other than ourselves, which means we'll be out of our comfort zone from time to time. Why do we do it? Because, put simply, Jesus has given us more than we could ever give to him.

Following God isn't always easy, but he doesn't leave us in the lurch. When he asks something of us, it's not a no-contact-mission, with a self-destructing manila envelope type of deal. He's there doing it with us, comforting us and supporting us. More than that though, 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NCV) says that God 'comforts us every time we have trouble.' Not just in the big things, but every time we have trouble with work, relationships, health...with anything.

And, God's promise of presence and comfort has to be a fact that we trust; it's not always a thing we feel. We must make the choice to acknowledge that he's with us in every situation we face, because we may not always see him.

So what now? Write down what's worrying you today - even if it feels tiny in the grand scheme. Ask God into each worry. Don't dwell on each worry, but pray a simple short prayer for peace over each one. Keep your hands open, God wants to help you in all things.
