Living like Jesus

Wednesday, 6 August 2025

God designed us to reflect him (see Genesis 1:26). When we examine Jesus' character and his actions, through reading his word, we see clearly what we ought to reflect.

Thankfully, we're not meant to reflect him in our own strength. We can ask Jesus to show us how to mirror him. This process is called 'sanctification', where God takes our lives and leads us in a more-and-more Christ-like direction. Want to know the most amazing part? This process started behind the scenes before we ever knew Jesus. Then, it fires up when we commit to join him in his work. He enables us to increasingly reflect his image - the way we were made to be.

So... can we now say, 'Thanks for the theology lesson. I guess I'll sit around and be sanctified all day now, no effort needed'? Hmmm... not exactly. We're asked to follow Jesus - an action. Colossians 1:15 says we're made to be reflections of God, and Jesus is the only true reflection of the Father. In him, we're given a living blueprint for taking hold of our newly cleaned up lives. That's why we're called to live like Jesus.

So what now? In which area of your life do you need to better reflect Jesus? Pray about how you can live as he would. Jesus will help you become more like him when you ask him to, and allow him to.
