God's at the gate (1)
Since the beginning of time, people have been very curious about God: when he works, where he works, how he works - and where we fit in the scheme of things. When does God work? In 2 Corinthians 6:2 (NCV) Jesus says, 'I tell you that the "right time" is now, and the "day of salvation" is now'.
Now! So what are we waiting for? It's really good to 'wait on the Lord': to take time to pause and ask God where he wants us to be. But, we must take care we're not putting things off. Waiting for a sign from Heaven or for the 'perfect' time to chat to someone about God don't need to happen for God to work. (In fact, funny thing about the 'perfect' time is that it's usually orchestrated by God). Paul reminds the Corinthian church that salvation is happening now - that now is the time to accept it, start living in it and sharing it.
Peter and John, two of Jesus' disciples, had an impromptu encounter at the Beautiful Gate with a man 'who was lame from birth' (Acts 3:2 NIV). Right then they shared the 'salvation' they'd found in God: not only eternal salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection, but a-life-changing 'salvation' from a disability that had kept the man from experiencing 'life in all its fullness' (John 10:10 NCV).
So what now? Been putting something (especially a Jesus-related thing) off? Decide to do it. Ask Jesus about it first, then take that first step. He will honour you taking action now.
