Overcoming giants

Monday, 16 February 2026

Imagine a ravenous tyrannosaurus rex is chasing you. Gets the adrenaline going, right? Now, transfer that idea to how we exercise our faith. Those times when it feels like something in life has become a five-tonne beast breathing down our neck... well, what if we turned around and said, 'I do see this dinosaur of a situation, and I am very afraid, but I believe God will help me,' and suddenly the dinosaur is now a tiny, harmless lizard.

Sometimes the hard periods in our lives feel like trying to run from a hungry dinosaur. The situation just looks so big from where we're standing. It's overwhelming, draining and often plain scary. But that's only when we're facing it from our own perspective. Paul wrote, 'So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen' (2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT). Instead of focusing on what we see, our mind should be fixed on what we can't directly see: God at work in our situation. Once we throw our hands up in surrender, dinosaurs become lizards, because we're no longer facing them on our own (if only the cast of Jurassic Park had known God, right?).

So we can't physically see God, but we will see the results and feel the peace that comes from putting everything into his care.

So what now? Which situations seem like they're getting their teeth into you, your family or friends right now? Pray about the situation every time each morning, thanking God that he can overcome the giants that threaten you.
