Who is the Gospel?

Tuesday, 17 February 2026

The Gospel is Jesus Christ. It's not just a story about him, or an inspirational message from him. It's not a crazy, intricate idea that we have to spend years training up our brain for. And it's not about a short set of propositions that we can fit into a promo pamphlet.

Maybe we're Christian and we know the drill and have the wristband. Or, maybe we've had him preached at us on the street, or had a leaflet about him handed at us (maybe even this devotional...). A back-to-base reminder for everyone: the Gospel is Jesus - who he is and what he's done. When we remember that, it puts fire in our bones and electricity in our veins. Because this whole faith, this whole belief that we sign up to, is about meeting him. It's that simple, and that transformative. Who is he? He's the Son of God, the good, strong ruler of everything we see and can't see. What's he done? He left Heaven, became a man on earth, lived perfectly so he could make the exchange of his clean garments for our up-to-the-knees soiled clothes.

When we feel up to our knees in the wrong we've done, remember... God doesn't have a 'good idea' for us to ponder over. He has a Person - himself - available to us for everything we'll ever need.

So what now? Rest in God's love for you today, but don't keep it to yourself. Introduce your friends, co-workers, family and whomever else you meet to the person of the Gospel: Jesus.
