Stay childlike (2)

Monday, 26 January 2026

So, yesterday's challenge was to do something with childlikeness this week. Great! But, what about when our childlikeness doesn't seem to have a positive effect on others? What if our joy-filled expression doesn't appear to make people feel better or lighter. That's ok, let's carry on living life in a childlike way.

Sometimes we try our best to share Jesus with childlike optimism, and don't see any obvious sign that the person is drawing closer to Jesus. Let's not get despondent. Each person has their own story to work through, and God works in us individually. When we're being faithful to God, he sees and treasures our efforts. Remember: 'Some plant the seed, and others harvest the crop' (John 4:37 CEV). We can trust that God has a plan regardless.

We do still have to make that effort, though. And it's important to be sensitive to where people are at - for some it means telling them about God's love straight away; for others, it will take a while before they're ready for us to share the truth of Jesus with them. Let's share with childlike joy and lightness, whatever the conversation.

So what now? Ask God to show you who's ready to hear about him, and do it with childlike optimism. Invite them to get to know him better, reminding them that he delights in them and wants them to live an abundant, joy-filled life.
